How to Convert KML to GPX (and Back) Online for Free

Step-by-step guide to converting between KML and GPX formats in your browser, with tips for preserving styling and waypoints.

Need to take a saved location set from Google Earth into your Garmin? Or send a recorded ride to a friend who only uses Google Earth? You can convert between KML and GPX without installing anything.

    The fastest way

Open the KML ↔ GPX Converter, drop in one or many files, and download the converted versions. The tool detects each file's format automatically and produces the opposite.

    What gets preserved

    • Coordinates and elevation — always.
    • Time stamps — yes, when present.
    • Waypoint and placemark names — yes.
    • Track names and segment grouping — yes.

    What changes

    • KML styling (line colors, icons, transparency) is dropped because GPX has no styling layer.
    • HTML descriptions on KML placemarks are flattened to plain text.
    • Folders in KML become a flat list of GPX tracks/waypoints — re-group them manually if needed.

    Batch tip

For a folder full of files, drag the whole folder onto the converter. Each file is processed independently and downloaded with the original filename plus a new extension.
